Waist Trainer Sizing: How to Measure and Choose

Waist Trainer Sizing: How to Measure and Choose

A waist trainer is the one piece of shapewear where a single size makes all the difference. Too big and it does nothing; too small and it digs in, rolls and ends up in a drawer. Here is how to get it right the first time.

Step 1: Measure your waist

  1. Stand straight and breathe out normally. Do not pull your tummy in.
  2. Find your natural waist: the narrowest part of your torso, usually a few cm above the belly button.
  3. Wrap a soft tape measure around it, level all the way round, snug but not tight.
  4. Write the number down in cm.

For corsets, also measure your underbust, directly under the bra band.

Step 2: Match it to the size chart

Waist trainers and corsets have their own table, separate from bodysuits. Use the waist and trainer section of our size guide, or the size guide button on each product page. If you fall between two sizes, our rule is to go down for Maximum-control pieces such as corsets, and up for lighter everyday cinchers.

Step 3: Choose the type

Type Feels like Best for
Latex Firm and warm Short wear, workouts
Neoprene belt Flexible, adjustable with velcro Gym and training
Boned corset (up to 25 bones) Structured, holds its shape Events and a very defined waist
Light waist trainer Soft, breathable Everyday wear and beginners

See them all in Waist Trainers & Corsets.

Step 4: Wear it comfortably

  • Start with a couple of hours and build up gradually.
  • If it has several rows of hooks, start on the loosest row.
  • You should be able to breathe, sit and bend. If you cannot, it is too small or too tight.
  • Take it off if you feel pain, numbness or dizziness.
  • In the UAE heat, avoid latex for long outdoor days.

What a waist trainer can and cannot do

A waist trainer shapes your silhouette while you wear it: a smaller-looking waist and a smoother line under clothes. It does not burn fat or permanently change your body, and it is not a replacement for medical advice. If you are pregnant, recovering from surgery or have a health condition, ask your doctor first.

Frequently asked questions

Should a waist trainer be tight?

Firm, not painful. It should feel like a strong hug, and you should still be able to breathe deeply and sit down.

Should I size down in a waist trainer?

Only when your measurement falls between two sizes on a Maximum-control corset. Never size down by more than one size.

Can I wear a waist trainer under an abaya?

Yes. A smooth, flat corset or light waist trainer works well under a belted or fitted abaya.
